snapshot of gus's for friday night beers

gang a la gus

we are lucky enough to live across the street from a much loved deli and dusk-timed beer garden/patio. it's an extension of our backyard and/or our living room. it's definitely an extension of our kitchen and i've begun to call it "the public fridge." tonight we gathered. some for snacks. some for beers. some for dinners. some for just plain sunsetty goodness. i brought out my big candle for the 7pm candlelight vigil thing i'd heard about through countless spam email. we stayed out til a chilly wind drove us back in.

[more serious email written earlier.]

Dan & Heather
Heather: Dan, I saw you downtown today. You were running in front of a fire engine!
Dan: [Looks perplexed for a moment and then --] Oh yeah. I was downtown.
Heather: You were running in front of a fire engine!
Dan: Well, I had to put money in my meter.

Reb & Jason
Reb: [calling out to dave; we can see his light is on from gus's] Rat Bastard!
Jason: Did you just call him Rat Bastard?!
Reb: I call everyone Rat Bastard.
Jason: [cocks head]
Reb: I call you Rat Bastard.
Jason: [astonished]
Reb: It means "I love you."
