night cowboy

August 4, 2000

See tonight’s chalk board, outside of Dan's room.

The rest of the folks are in The Den playing Pit, a stock market game that’s got Œem all in a heated yelling thrashing card frenzy. Me, I was making dinner and in a more quiet mood (more quieter) and just wanted to kick it, eat my yummy salad and read the paperŠ since I haven’t had a chance to in days.

Am now drinking a beer. MmmmŠ beer.

I’ve been outta step since I got home from work. Just wanted some nice quiet alone time. Bliss. The Friends went to Music in the Plaza (y’know, they shoulda named that Music at the Mission for a nice alliterative touch). I stayed home and caught up on email (jeesh, and what a slow email day it was). And then jumped on my bike and took off for the gym and had the best workout. And then noticed that I had thirteen extra dollars in my timbuk3 bag (drool everyone should have one of these), so took off for the grocery store.

It’s the little things that get me. Little things like riding my bike at night. I have the coolest front bike light and a blinking back light and reflectors on my bike bag. And I love that. But even more I just love riding my bike at night (coming home from the store I thought, good god, I should be wearing a helmet, and rode the rest of the way home on sidewalks not that that is safer.).

At the grocery store I ran into a very cool acquaintance who is a bike afficionado. It’s safe to say that he is THE bike guy in SLO. He gets old used bikes, fixes them up and then gives them to people who need bikes. He mentioned that he is having a Bike Happening next Thursday. It’ll be Farmers and we’ll all meet late farmers in the back of Fish Daddies/Konas/Frog&Peach. At 9:30 PM there will be a nice meandering migration on bike to Meadow park for coffee or perhaps alcoholic beverages.

I can’t wait!

About the back of Fish Daddies/Konas/F&P man, what a great location. It’s on San Luis Creek, a creek that runs right through the middle of downtown (actually underneath a good portion of downtown). At the mission the creek reemerges and it there are businesses that line it a pub, a sandwich shop, and a shi-shi taco place is where we will meet. Three businesses who’s redwood decks blend into one with swirly viny iron work, bricks (a rarity in san luis, due to earthquake worries) and large mature, speckled-trunk and big-leafed trees.

I’m currently listening to the radio. I rarely listen to the radio and when I do it’s usually public radio. But tonight I’m listening to K-Bear and it’s so good. A little nostalgicŠ but it’s nice tonight. I’ve lit some Nag Champa incence (best ever) and am contemplating ending this entry here and spending the rest of the evening purusing a magazine or joining the game players in the den. Will probably do the first. I’m in the mood for total girly evening: scents and candles and facial mask.
