sunset

June 25, 2000

from the list:
tonight we had a black and white sunset. it was like an afterthought. the real sunset came, but it was all pastel sherbets. nothing to knock yer socks off. and then, as if moving backwards in time into a 1930s movie, the whole sky morphed to grayscale.

big surreal cotton ball clouds, majestic cerros, streaks of grays and whites. it was amazing. i stood on the top of our upstairs landing for minutes upon minutes. wishing i was catherine jamieson so that i would have a camera or two in my hip pocket to put these beautiful pictures where you all could see them.

i am getting over a cold. and laughing at myself. i spent a solid nine hours last friday feeling as guilty as sin for not being at work. should be at work, i thought as i huffed and puffed down the hall. should be at work, i thought as i blew mosta my brains into some puffs kleenex (mmm... softy goodness doesn't rough up yer nose). should be at work as i sweated from some stupid fever. heh.

i make an excellent virgo.

thursday night i accidentally wandered into Art After Dark during our downtown farmers market. the local artists keep their galleries open [1] late to coincide with our latenight farmers. in one of the galleries i stumbled across (ha. was right in front of me) the coolest mini exhibit of handmade art books. mmmm... paper. mmmm... ink. mmmm... binding. mmmm... letterset type. most of you know that i was reduced to a drooling mess of envious eye flutters.

i am crazy for paper/ink/handbindings/folding/glueing/and don't even get me started on olfa knives.

i love olfa knives.

from now on you may address me as Marya OlfaKnife. ;)

(mother's maiden name musta been Self Healing Cutting Board. purr purr)

anyway... spent my time recuperting while trying my hand at it. found a GREAT book, and if anyone else is interested it is called Cover to Cover by Shareen La Plante. Awesome. Best part is it shows some great and interesting signature folds, for origami-esque books. purr purr. ;)

point of this post?

time off from work coupled with some quality-time creativity... oh.my.god. i hadn't realized how much i had missed it. and how quickly i recovered from my cold. just in time to enjoy the b&w sunset. ;)

later, also from The List: (talking about word play, then meditation)
i have had two word plays flipping around my head lately:

terror-tory

&

the other is from a buddhist chant... part of which goes "grant your blessings so that the path my clarify confusion"... but invariably i say

grant your blessings so that the path may terrify confusion.

and then i crack myself up and have lost the meditation game once again. ;)

>I guess I would be most >interested in the answer to the question "Where would you start?"
