Hollister Peak has got to be one of the greatest landmarks in SLO County and it conjurs up all kinds of memories from me, as I have passed it I don't know how many times since my mom moved my sister and me here in 1979.

It's a peak that begs to be drawn and pleads to be climbed. You can hike it from the other side if the rancher than owns the property doesn't see you. If he does you are prone to meet the barrel of his shot gun, but this is something you take into consideration as you crawl under or climb over the barbed wire with the No Tresspassing signs.

Most of all, it is impossible for me to not see it and think of the elelphant straddling the hill.

Besides the beautiful rock and hill, I also love the little houses and farms that surround its base. Very San Luis. A site I hope never gets erased by housing tracts and parking lots.
