Winery Running

the friends that ran the winery

Last Sunday, the first day of daylight savings no less when all of the clocks sprung forward, Miss Kelly D, ShaneCGreen, and Ana R [l-r] got up at the crack of dawn to race through Paso Vineyard country. And race they did. Kel and ShaneC did the half-marathon. Ana ran 5k.

Yesterday Shaney and I went back to Paso (tho not for Paso for Dinner, yet). We drove highway 1 to 46, clouds clearing from the dreary, rainy overcast morning. It was breathtakingly beautiful. Each bend we rounded seemed to present us with an even more gorgeous swoop of green landscape, hills dotted with cows, or dappled two-laned road, tall sycamores and live oaks.

We were off to Norman Winery to pick up some Monster Zin and No-Nonsense Red for my Dad and Janet.

Both on the way there and back we ran into the same turkey, crossing the road. A hen, she seemed trapped between to two different barbed wire fences. Both times we stopped the car, turned down the tunes (John Spencer Blues Explosion there, Faithless, coming back), rolled down the windows and gobbled in her general direction. Instead of answering back she just ran more quickly to the closest fence. Poor bird. We just wanted to make friends.
